Graphic Designer, Illustrator & Artist

Modern Western cultures tend to cling to the need to create stable and permanent structures in all areas of existence. In this context, my field of research and experimentation in the sphere of artistic creation delves into the essence of Eastern philosophies to explore the concept of impermanence (anicca in Pali). What is it, how does it manifest, and why should we adopt it as the foundation of our thinking and understanding of the world? These are the questions my work raises and aims to provoke in the viewer, making them reconsider the validity of the principles that govern their existence.

Buddhism holds that the only permanent thing in a phenomenological world is impermanence, instability, and change, and that our fixed and determined ideas are mere mental fabrications or illusions. Taoist philosophy, Hinduism, and some Western philosophical currents such as Stoicism agree with Buddhism on this concept. In contrast to this notion, the Western world focuses on creating and maintaining rigid beliefs and stable structures, challenging the essence of nature and embracing the anxiety, stress, and suffering derived from an artificial and erroneous view of the world.

Art, in its most traditional conception, presupposes enduring works that are meant to remain unchanged over time—eternal works that transcend generations.

In contrast, my work adopts impermanence and indeterminacy as its central concept. It is conceived to be alterable, to be in constant evolution and susceptible to change at all times, so it never reaches a final state and reinvents itself with each exhibition. It can even deteriorate and disappear as part of its natural evolution.

TECHNICAL DESIGN

The work is an installation comprising paintings and sculptures made with soft materials: sticks, threads, and fabrics.

DIMENSIONS

Painting Format: Variable sizes from 20×30 cm to 80×120 cm.
Sculpture Format with Sticks: Variable sizes between 10 cm and 1.9 m.
Given the mutable and experimental nature of the work, the elements can be grouped differently, so attempting to define it precisely contradicts the conceptual axis on which it is based.

LOCATION

It has been installed in two different locations, in natural spaces around Alcalá la Real (Jaén).
